I am a cultural anthropologist, a scholar of contemporary Jewish social life and political theology, and Assistant Professor of the Interdisciplinary Study of Religions and Jewish Studies at Bard College. I received my PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago, and I also hold an MA in Religious Studies from the University of Chicago, an MA in Physics from the University of Virginia, and a BA in Physics from Eckerd College.
My work sits across the anthropology of religion, Jewish studies, and religious studies. It explores how political economy, political theology, and traditions of critical reflectivity intersect to shape moral imagination across distinctive forms of life.
I have long-term fieldwork experience in Israel/Palestine, and my current book project, Lod Alight: National-Religious Activism, Moral Imagination, and the Limits of Reflection, is a study of a national-religious Israeli Jewish “social settlement” project that has settled in Israel’s binational cities since the 1990s.
